Summer is all fun and enjoyment until you see your skin getting one or two or even three shades darker. It’s nothing but tanning. Nobody loves dark patches on their skin while the rest of their skin’s color remains light. It looks ugly. It goes away by itself but if you are in a hurry to go to a party, or you have to flaunt that body on a beach, you can remove those dark patches with the help of these home remedies we brought you today. But first, you should know about the reason behind it, so that you know what you’re dealing with. 

 

HOW SKIN TANS?

 

We all know that tanning happens because of the exposure to the sun. But do you know how? Actually, the sun’s UV Rays damage the DNA of your skin. Tanning is your body’s defence against the damage caused by harmful UV Rays. When you tan, melanin (skin pigment) rises to the surface of the skin. The result is the darkening of your skin’s natural colour. 

 

For a lot of skin types, skin tanning can turn to sunburn. With the excessive exposure of sun, sometimes, even melanin is unable to protect your skin. Symptoms of sunburn can be reddening of the skin and even a rash, fever, and blisters. 

 

Sunscreen is the best solution to prevent tanning and sunburn. However, if you want to remove it, these home remedies might just be the thing you were looking for. 

  • HONEY AND LEMON JUICE 

 

Lemon and Honey, both are magical for your skin, but when they team up, their powers are increased by 100%. Lemon juice can be beneficial for your blemishes, scars and spots. It gently removes the dirt, dust accumulation, and dead skin cells. However, Vitamin C present in it plays a major role in tan removal properties of it. 

 

Honey provides nourishment and moisturization to the skin. It is a great exfoliator that cleans the pores on your skin. Honey takes care of sunburns, previous scars, spots and blemishes.

 

Prepare a mixture of 2 teaspoons of freshly squeezed lemon and 1 teaspoon of honey. Stir it well. Now clean your face with a cleanser first. After cleaning, apply this paste on your face, neck and arms. Rub in circular motions. Sit like this for half an hour and then rinse it off with cold water. Follow this procedure for a few days and you’ll start seeing results. 

  • OATMEAL AND BUTTERMILK

 

Oatmeal is a great exfoliator. When applied on skin, it acts as a natural skin-exfoliating agent. It eliminates the dead cells from the topmost layer of the skin. This brings up new cells upwards that removes the dark patches known as tanning. 

 

Buttermilk, on the other hand, contains a heavy amount of lactic acid. Lactic acid has the ability of reducing your skin tone naturally. That’s why, it’s a great idea to use buttermilk to get rid of sun tan and pigmentation. Buttermilk can also kill the acne-causing bacteria with its antimicrobial nature and help keep your complexion clear.

 

To make this remedy, you need to soak 2 teaspoons of oats in some water for around five to ten minutes. Now take the other ingredient, i.e., buttermilk. Add 2-3 teaspoons of buttermilk in them and mix the mixture well. You can even add honey. It will make this magical mixture more moisturizing. Mix it well and apply on your face, arm and neck. Massage in a circular motion. Keep the paste on your skin for 15-20 minutes. Now wash your skin with cold water to get a fresh and cleaner looking skin. 

  • YOGURT AND TOMATO

 

Tomatoes are beauty enhancers in many ways. One of the ways is to keep the tanning at bay. Tomatoes bring out your natural skin color, they don’t make you any whiter! Vitamin C, present in these red balls, helps in reducing the skin tone and removing the dead skin cells to enhance the complexion. 

 

Yogurt is a cooling agent that cools down your skin cells when applied on a body part. It can also act as one of the best remedies for tan removal because of the lactic acid present in it. That’s why yogurt is added in many face packs. 

 

Chop a medium-sized tomato and put it in a blender. Now add some yogurt in it. Blend this mixture until the blender converts it into a smooth paste. A tip, use thick yogurt so that the paste turns out to be thick. It’ll be easier to apply thick paste on your face. Now, take out this mixture, put it in a bowl and apply on your face. Keep it for 15-20 minutes. After 15-20 mins, rinse your face with cold water. You have to do this everyday until you achieve your natural skin color. If you have oily skin, opt for fat-free yoghurt or curd made with toned milk.

  • POTATO

 

Everyone loves potatoes. Other than the rumbling tummies, potatoes are loved by your skin, too. Potatoes have a lot of vitamins, carbohydrates, minerals like phosphorus, magnesium and potassium. It’s also rich in antioxidants. All these benefits positively affect your body. Other than this, potatoes work best on skin, too. It has tan removal properties to keep your skin-tone light. Potato also helps to achieve clear, glowing skin and gets rid of stubborn sun tan on the face and arms. Along with getting rid of tan, potatoes also reduce dark spots, acne spots, scars and blemishes. They also reduce redness and inflammation of the skin caused by rashes and infections.

 

One can add additional stuff with potatoes to increase the efficiency. With the help of potato pulp, yogurt and gram flour, you can make a paste that will help you with your tanning problems. Mix 1 teaspoon of gram flour and potato pulp together and mix them well. Now add the same quantity of thick yogurt into it and make a paste out of it. Apply this paste on your face with a gentle massage. Keep it on your face, neck and arms for half an hour and then clear it off with cold water. 

 

Other kitchen stuff that you can use for tan removal are aloe vera, cucumber, gram flour and honey and papaya. We hope you found the article helpful.
